Your way takes you through the natural beauty of the Mirik Valley, a peaceful hill station around the peaceful Sumendu Lake, where pine trees mirror in glassy waters and horses trot along the lakeshore road. It's the ideal stopover for introspection, photographs, or even a peaceful boat ride if time permits. The air is cooler here, the tempo slower — a gentle glide from the high hills to the plains. Traveling further along, you go past the border with Nepal, where cultures mix and the terrain opens up into sweeping, foggy landscapes. Just before you go down to the plains, you call at the famous Gopaldhara Tea Estate, one of the highest and most scenic tea gardens of the region.
